Dr. Tereso A. Abella, program leader of the “Sustainable Agriculture and Fishery R&D Program for Quality Life” and concurrently director of the FAC conveyed to 90 expectant research managers the best practices he and his predecessors instituted for the management of the above-mentioned program which won as “national best higher education institution (HEI) research program” under the auspices of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The sharing of best practices was carried out during the seminar organized by CHED Regional Office No. 3 for public and private HEIs in Central Luzon at the Malolos City-based University of Regina Carmeli (URC). In his presentation, Dr. Abella stressed that winning the award was a result of long years of perseverance, commitment and dedication anchored on the philosophy and mission of the institution. He cited the “Baconian” model of undertaking research, and culture of excellence as great factors in delivering relevant development contributions to the countryside.
Also, Dr. Ruben C. Sevilleja, former FAC director and current CLSU president, included in his inspirational message how the administration of CLSU R & D programs harmonize with the academic, extension and enterprise development programs of the university.

To complete the essence of the seminar, executive vice president Belen de Jesus presented the URC Community Development and Extension Program which was chosen by CHED as “regional best HEI extension program”. She said that “the program thrusts of the university on socialized housing, health services, innovative alternative education delivery system, social advocacy and instruction based community service paved the way for the award”.

In order to create further awareness among HEIs, Dr. Libertad P. Garcia presented CHED’s policies and guidelines on Best HEI research and extension program award, and REPUBLICA (Research and Publication) award. (With reports from TAAbella)
